J.D. Vance marched up to Air Force Two, Vice President Kamala Harris’s plane, on Wednesday with the intention of creating a spectacle for the assembled press by confronting Harris unannounced. However, his plans quickly unraveled when he discovered that Harris wasn’t on board.

Vance attempted to salvage the moment by telling reporters, “I just wanted to check out my future plane,” but the intended confrontation fizzled without Harris present. He explained that he had hoped to “say hello to the vice president and ask her why she refuses to answer questions.”

The specific questions Vance had in mind remain unclear, especially since Harris has been vocal in pressing Donald Trump to attend a scheduled September 10 debate—a commitment Trump had already made when running against President Joe Biden.

At a Philadelphia rally on Tuesday, J.D. Vance expressed his eagerness to debate Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, stating that he would “absolutely” take the opportunity if it arose.

However, Vance’s ambitions took a humorous turn just a day later. After his attempt to confront Vice President Kamala Harris in Wisconsin failed—due to her absence—the Harris campaign responded with a cheeky video. The clip, set to popular TikTok audio, appeared to mock Vance’s misstep. It featured a voiceover saying, “Now I want to sit back and relax and enjoy my evening, when all of the sudden I hear this agitating, grating voice,” before cutting from Harris and Walz standing by their plane to a shot of the Trump-Vance plane taking off.

This week, Harris and Vance have been holding competing campaign events, with Vance trailing closely behind her on a nationwide tour. His attempt to shadow her movements—while ostensibly normal for a political campaign—has taken on an almost comical tone due to the weird encounters, like his recent misfire at the Wisconsin airport.
